Regional Guide - North Oxford

Summertown, Banbury and Woodstock Road

This area has always been more popular with Oxford University students, mostly because there are quite a few colleges around- Lady Margaret Hall, Wolfson and St Hugh’s to name but a few. There are regular buses into the city centre, train station, and also good links to Headington and Brookes Gipsy Lane campus.

Summertown is the main place to go in this area for shopping, eating and drinking. You’ll find a good range of both chain and boutique shops, and some great restaurants. Bars and pubs are scarce here (but do check out the Dew Drop Inn), so a short walk to North Parade or Jericho should quench your thirst. If exercise is on the menu, look out for the Marston Ferry Sports Centre and Esporta, both offering great facilities and a wide range of classes.

Jericho

This is one of the hottest areas in town- we’ve a good range of gorgeous student accommodation (see left), which is popular with all students. Jericho is close to the city centre, but has the feel of a cosmopolitan village, with a fantastic range of boutiques, bookshops, and entertainment in every corner.

Best casual haunts include pubs such as the Victoria, the Bookbinders, Jude the Obscure and Jericho (great for live music), and for something a little classier Angels, Raoul’s and the Duke of Cambridge mix a mean cocktail. There’s a great choice of restaurants here too, spanning Italian industrial chic at Branca to outstanding authentic Lebanese at Al-Shami.
